Artistic Journey of Marcelle
Born in 1958 into a family of seven girls, Marcelle has been accompanied by her passion for drawing from an early age. After starting as an animation colorist in Belgium for the cartoon « The Pink Panther » and later working for an advertising studio in South Africa, she pursued studies in graphics and ceramics at the Antwerp Academy. Subsequently, she embarked on a journey across America in search of her identity, while continuing to devote herself to her art, particularly at the Florida School of the Arts. Numerous human experiences, including salmon fishing in Alaska as a woman among a predominantly male group, nurtured her passion for wild nature, its protection, and connecting with others while evolving her creative techniques.
Spending sixteen years in Ecuador, she immersed herself in the local population, traditions, pace of life, and climate. There, she initially worked as an illustrator for an ecological organization, and later as a mountain guide, exhibiting her creations. The works of the Ecuadorian painter « Oswaldo Guayasamin » captivated her and have since guided her life trajectory through an incessant pursuit of line in drawing.
Upon returning to Belgium with her Ecuadorian husband and two daughters, she devoted herself to her artistic passion. Inspired by both old masters and contemporary artists, Marcelle seized the opportunity at the Leuven Academy of Arts (SLAC)to further experiment with drawing, sculpture, and graphics. The available equipment, techniques, and support allowed her to breathe life into portraits, landscapes, and still lifes in a realistic, abstract, conscious, or impulsive manner, shining in her art and finding fulfillment.
